Department: Business & Development

Reports To: Chairman

Location: Newport Beach, CA + Travel

FLSA Status: Exempt

Compensation: $110,000 – $170,000 + Performance Incentives

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly driven, strategic, and results-oriented Business Development Manager to lead deal origination efforts and drive the firm’s pipeline across private and public markets. This role requires a strong “hunter” mentality combined with the ability to build, manage, and scale relationships and sourcing strategies.

You will play a critical role in shaping and executing the firm’s business development strategy—owning outbound sourcing initiatives, developing key partnerships, and mentoring junior team members. Working directly with senior leadership, you will be responsible for generating proprietary deal flow, advancing opportunities, and contributing to investment execution.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives in a high-performance environment and is motivated by ownership, impact, and upside.

Key Responsibilities Deal Origination & Business Development (Primary Focus)
  • Lead and execute high-volume outbound sourcing strategies (calls, email, LinkedIn, and in-person networking)
  • Develop and maintain relationships with business owners, founders, executives, brokers, and intermediaries
  • Design and implement targeted sourcing campaigns across industries and geographies
  • Generate proprietary, off-market investment opportunities
  • Represent the firm at meetings, conferences, and industry events to expand network and visibility
  • Own and manage CRM systems, ensuring accurate tracking of pipeline activity and deal progression
  • Drive follow-ups, nurture relationships, and advance opportunities through the deal lifecycle
  • Identify trends and provide market intelligence to inform sourcing strategy
Leadership & Strategy
  • Help define and refine the firm’s business development strategy and outreach approach
  • Mentor and guide junior team members or associates on sourcing best practices
  • Establish KPIs, track performance metrics, and optimize outreach effectiveness
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with investment and leadership teams
Investment Analysis & Execution (Secondary Focus)
  • Evaluate inbound and sourced opportunities through financial and strategic analysis
  • Review financial statements and support valuation modeling
  • Contribute to investment theses, presentations, and internal investment memos
  • Assist with due diligence and transaction execution
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in business development, deal sourcing, investment banking, private equity, or a highly outbound, relationship-driven role
  • Proven track record of building and managing a pipeline through proactive outreach
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
  • Experience engaging with senior executives and decision-makers
  • Highly motivated, competitive, and results-driven mindset
  • Ability to operate independently while managing multiple priorities
Preferred Experience
  • Direct experience in M&A sourcing, deal origination, or intermediary relationships
  • Background in investment banking, private equity, or transaction advisory
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior team members
  • Proficiency with CRM tools and outreach tracking systems
  • Exposure to small/middle-market businesses or micro-cap public companies
  • Active participation in conferences and industry networking

Working Conditions

  • Occasional travel required for meetings, conferences, and relationship development
