Overview
Bridges is a youth-development program that is committed to the long-term success of Baltimore City youth and to providing life-changing opportunities to independent school students. The program currently works with 871 young people – 485 Baltimore City youth ages 9-23 and 386 independent school students – through sites at The St. Paul’s Schools, Gilman School, The Bryn Mawr School, and McDonogh School.
The Opportunity
Bridges is searching for high school elective teachers with interest and expertise in the following subjects: Engineering/Architecture; Civics/Community Engagement; Animation/Graphic Design; Entrepreneurship; Photography/Videography; Creative Writing; Contemporary Literature; Environmental Science/Policy/Environmental Racism; Performing Arts/Improvisation.
Elective teachers will work as a part of Bridges’ High School Summer Jobs Program. This is an opportunity for excellent teachers with a passion for a subject to craft their own curriculum.
The role is seasonal (majority of work conducted over five weeks in the summer, June 29-July 31, 2026) and part-time (6 hours per week for 5 weeks), making this a great opportunity for teachers seeking part-time summer employment. During the five-week program, teachers will teach their elective class 2 days per week for 3 hours per day. Small class sizes range from 8-15 high school aged students with Bridges’ full-time staff present to assist in the classroom.
The Summer Jobs Program is in-person on-campus at Loyola University Maryland. Teachers will report to Bridges Baltimore’s Senior Director of High School, College, and Career Programs. Before the summer, teachers will be in communication with the Senior Director and will be asked to participate in one meeting in April or May 2026. Teachers will submit course plans and requests for materials by May 1, 2026.
